    Casey's Weekend Trail Pick

There's a new piece of Clear Creek Canyon to explore this weekend. Jefferson County Parks & Open Space and its partners are set to open the Huntsman segment of the Clear Creek Trail in Clear Creek Canyon Park, above Golden, on Friday, Nov. 6, according to the Clear Creek Courant.

    What's new

    • 3 miles of ADA-compliant trail
    • Two bridges and multiple creek access points
    • A new trailhead parking lot with about 100 spaces

    Where it fits

The Clear Creek Trail, formerly called the Peaks to Plains Trail, is planned as a 65-mile route that will one day connect the South Platte Trail in Denver to the headwaters of Clear Creek at Loveland Pass. The Huntsman segment builds on the CCR Trailhead segment, which opened in November 2025. With Huntsman open, about 6 miles remain to finish Jeffco's 13.5-mile stretch through Clear Creek Canyon.

    Know before you go

    • The canyon's trailheads sit along U.S. Highway 6 west of Golden. The CCR Trailhead, the segment just below Huntsman, is at 23801 US Highway 6, Golden.
    • Bicycles are allowed on the Clear Creek Trail in the canyon.
    • Take care near the water. Jeffco asks visitors to use caution when accessing the creek.
    • Anglers need a valid Colorado fishing license with a habitat stamp.
    • Opening details can change, so check Jeffco's Clear Creek Canyon Park page before you head out: https://www.jeffco.us/1196/Clear-Creek-Canyon-Park

Best for: an accessible creekside walk or ride close to Denver.
